Creator Search Insights is TikTok's keyword research tool. It was built for creators deciding what to film next, but it's just as useful for brands deciding what to brief. The trap is expecting it to find creators for you. It doesn't, and knowing exactly what it leaves out saves you from bad shortlists. This page sits under our main guide on how to find TikTok influencers.
What does TikTok Creator Search Insights show?
As of October 2026, TikTok's Help Center describes these parts:
- Frequently searched topics. Browse what people on TikTok search for, sortable by category, or suggestions tied to the content you make.
- Content gap filter. Topics that are searched often but have relatively few videos.
- Searches by followers filter. What your own followers are searching for.
- Search popularity. Tap a topic to see how popular it is, plus related videos and related topics.
- Saved topics. Bookmark topics to come back to.
- Search analytics. For your own posts, how search drove views, for all posts and for posts you made from a topic, over 7 days, 14 days or a custom range.
TikTok has been explicit that search matters to it. When it introduced the Creator Rewards Program, search value was one of the things it said it would reward. Creators who make searchable videos have a reason to keep doing it.
What does Creator Search Insights hide?
Everything a brand needs to pick a creator. These are our observations from what the tool does and doesn't display:
| You can see | You can't see |
|---|---|
| Topics people search | Which creators rank for them, as a list |
| Search popularity per topic | Follower counts, median views or engagement for any creator |
| Content gaps | Whether a gap exists because nobody wants to watch it |
| Related videos | Which of those videos were sponsored, and how they did |
| What your own followers search | Who is searching: age, location, gender |
| Search traffic to your own posts | Clicks, sales or anything after the view |
The last row matters most. Search popularity tells you demand for a topic exists. It can't tell you that a video on that topic will sell. Public data never shows sales.
And a content gap isn't a guarantee. Some topics have few videos because they're hard to make interesting, or because the searches come from a region you don't ship to. Treat a gap as a hypothesis to test, not a sure thing.
How brands can use Creator Search Insights to find creators
Use it in three steps: find the searches, find who ranks, then filter and check.
1. Find the searches in your category. Open the tool, browse the category closest to yours and search your product type. Save every topic your customer would plausibly type. A pet brand might save "best dog food for allergies" and "puppy crate training". Look at the content gap list hardest. Those are angles with less competition.
2. Search those topics on TikTok. Run each saved topic through normal TikTok search and open the Videos tab. The creators who show up repeatedly across your topics are your first names. They already make videos your buyers are looking for.
3. Fill in the numbers. The tool gave you topics, and search gave you names. Neither gave you follower counts, views or engagement. Put the names into a sheet, then widen the pool with a database. You can search TikTok and Instagram creators by niche, country, followers and engagement rate and look up any handle you found, with 200 rows free and no signup. Audience filters like age and city aren't live yet.
Then vet every name the same way. Our step-by-step is in how to vet a TikTok creator before you pay them.
How to use search insights in a creator brief
The other use is the brief. Once you've hired a creator, a searched topic gives them an angle with demand already behind it.
- Hand over the exact phrase. "Best dog food for allergies" beats "talk about our food". Ask them to say it early, show it as on-screen text and put it in the caption, so the video matches the search.
- Pick a gap, not a crowd. If a topic has a content gap label, a decent video has a better shot at showing up for it.
- Let the creator shape it. The phrase is the target. How they get there is their job. Over-scripted videos read as ads.
- Check search analytics with them after. The creator can see how much of their views came from search. Ask for a screen recording of that tab after the post goes up.
That last point is one of the few places a brand can get search data on a sponsored post at all.
Creator Search Insights vs TikTok One
People mix them up because both are TikTok tools that touch creators. They do different jobs.
Creator Search Insights is about topics: what people search for and where videos are missing. TikTok One, where TikTok's Creator Marketplace now lives, is about creators: it lets brands filter opted-in creators by country, followers, views and engagement and run paid collaborations. Use Search Insights to decide what to make, and TikTok One or a database to decide who makes it. Our TikTok Creator Marketplace guide covers that side.
FAQ
It's a free in-app tool from TikTok that shows topics people search for on TikTok, how popular each search is, and which topics have few videos, labelled content gaps. TikTok launched it in March 2024 in select regions. It's built for creators planning content, but brands can use it to find what their buyers search for.
When TikTok launched it, the way in was to type "Creator Search Insights" into the TikTok search bar. TikTok also links it from its creator tools. Availability depends on your region and account, so if it doesn't appear, your account or country may not have it yet. Check TikTok's Help Center for the current path.
Indirectly. It lists search topics, not creators, and shows no follower counts, views or engagement for anyone. Use it to find the phrases your buyers search, then search those phrases on TikTok to see which creators rank. Put those names in a sheet or database and vet them before you pay anyone.
A content gap is a topic people search for often that has relatively few videos on TikTok. For brands, a gap in your category is a brief waiting to be written: a creator who makes a good video on that topic has less competition for the search. It doesn't promise views, just less crowding.
