UGC creators make videos for your brand to post and run as ads. They don't post to their own audience, so the things that matter in influencer marketing, like followers and audience location, mostly don't apply here. What matters is whether they can make a video that stops a thumb. This page is the UGC branch of our main guide on how to find TikTok influencers. If you're not sure UGC is what you need, start with our UGC creators guide.
What is the difference between a UGC creator and an influencer?
| UGC creator | Influencer | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the video runs | Your account and your ads | Their account |
| What you pay for | The video and the rights to use it | Their audience's attention |
| Followers matter? | Barely | Yes, but views matter more |
| How you judge them | Portfolio, hooks, editing | Views, engagement, audience fit |
The lines blur. Many influencers sell UGC on the side, and some UGC creators grow an audience. But keep the jobs separate when you hire, because the brief, the price and the contract are different.
Where to find UGC creators for hire, free
Marketplaces exist because finding UGC creators takes a few hours. Here's how to spend those hours yourself and skip the fee.
1. Search TikTok and Instagram for UGC portfolios. Most working UGC creators run an account that is their portfolio. Search "UGC creator" plus your niche: "UGC creator skincare", "UGC creator pets", "UGC creator fitness". Hashtags like #ugccreator and #ugcportfolio work too. The link in bio usually goes to a portfolio and a rate sheet.
2. Check your own customers. Search your brand name on both apps and scroll your tagged posts and reviews. A customer who already filmed your product unprompted is half-hired. They know the product and sound like a buyer because they are one.
3. Post a call for creators. One post or story on your brand's channels: what you make, what kind of videos you want, what you pay, how to apply. Ask for three sample videos and a rate. You'll get volume. Filter hard.
4. Look at ads in your category. The TikTok Creative Center shows top-performing ads, and many are creator-made. The creator's face is the lead. Search for them by the name on screen or the account that posted the original.
5. Ask the creators you already like. Good UGC creators know other good UGC creators. When you hire one, ask who they'd recommend for a different look, age or niche.
How to hire UGC creators: run a paid test
Don't pick from portfolios alone. Portfolios show a creator's best five videos out of fifty. Pay three to five shortlisted creators for one short video each, on the same brief, and compare them.
What to judge on:
- The first two seconds. Does it hook? That's the part your ad lives or dies on.
- Does it look native? It should look like a TikTok or a Reel, not a TV spot.
- Did they follow the brief without reading it out word for word?
- Turnaround. Did it arrive on time, with the files you asked for?
Then hire the winners for a batch. If you want to test ads at volume, ask for several hooks on the same body video. It's the cheapest way to multiply what you get.
What to agree before you pay a UGC creator
UGC prices look similar until you read the terms. Get these in writing:
- Usage rights. Organic only, or paid ads too? Which platforms, and for how long?
- Whitelisting. Will you run ads from the creator's own account? That's a separate permission, and usually a separate fee.
- Raw files. Clean footage without captions or music, so you can re-edit.
- Hooks and revisions. How many alternate openings, how many rounds of edits.
- Exclusivity. Can they make videos for a competitor next month?
- Disclosure. If the video promotes your brand and you paid or gifted, the FTC's guidance for influencers expects the connection to be clear. Use #ad or the platform's paid partnership label where it applies.
This is a checklist, not legal advice. Have a lawyer review your contract.

When a UGC agency or platform is worth paying for
Doing this yourself costs time, not money. It's the right call for a first batch of five to ten videos. It stops being the right call when you need dozens of videos a month across several products, because sourcing, briefing, chasing files and checking rights becomes a part-time job.
At that point you have two options. A UGC platform gives you a self-serve pool of creators and charges for access. A UGC content agency does the sourcing, briefing and quality control for you.
If you'd rather skip the sourcing, send us a brief with the product, budget, a competitor you like and the niche. We shortlist creators by hand, with no demo call.
FAQ
Search TikTok and Instagram for "UGC creator" plus your niche, since most working UGC creators run a portfolio account. Check your own tagged posts and reviews for customers who already film. Post a short call for creators on your brand's channels. All three cost nothing but your time, and you pay the creator directly with no platform cut.
No. UGC creators make videos for your channels and ads, not their own feed, so their follower count barely matters. What matters is whether their videos hold attention in the first seconds, look native to TikTok or Reels, and match the format you need. Judge the portfolio, not the profile.
Less than most influencer posts. In Influencer Marketing Hub's 2026 benchmark, roughly 80% of UGC price responses sat under $500. Rates move with usage rights, number of hooks, raw files and how long you can run the video as an ad, so agree those in writing before you compare quotes.
If you paid for it or gave free product and you run it to promote your brand, treat it as an endorsement. The FTC expects material connections to be disclosed clearly. Use the platform's branded content or paid partnership labels where they apply, and get advice for your market. This is not legal advice.
