Engagement rate calculator

ER per view
–
ER per follower
–

(Likes + comments + shares) ÷ views, and ÷ followers. Use one post's counts, or average likes, comments, shares and views across the last 12 posts. Enter the account's current follower count.

This calculator is part of our TikTok engagement rate guide, which covers what the metric means and where to find the numbers. Below: the formulas the calculator uses, and how to read what it gives you.

What formulas does the calculator use?

ResultFormulaAnswers
ER per view(likes + comments + shares) ÷ views × 100Did the people who saw it react?
ER per follower(likes + comments + shares) ÷ followers × 100How big was the reaction next to the creator's following?

A made-up video, to show the maths: 40,000 views, 2,000 likes, 120 comments and 80 shares, from a creator with 200,000 followers.

  • Per view: 2,200 ÷ 40,000 × 100 = 5.5%
  • Per follower: 2,200 ÷ 200,000 × 100 = 1.1%

Same video, two answers, five times apart. Neither is wrong. The step-by-step version, with a full account example, is in how to calculate engagement rate on TikTok.

Which number should you use?

Per view, most of the time. It tells you how a post landed with the people who actually saw it, and it doesn't swing as hard when one video goes viral.

Per follower when you're comparing accounts on a dashboard that uses it. Many benchmark reports and tools are per follower. Rival IQ's 2025 report, for example, measures per follower and puts the median brand account on TikTok at 1.73%. Comparing your per view result with a per follower benchmark will make almost anyone look brilliant.

Why the two numbers drift apart, and which to pay for, is covered in full in engagement rate vs views.

How to read your result

Compare it against the right peers, in this order:

  1. Same formula. Per view against per view. Never mix them.
  2. Same follower size. Smaller accounts usually post higher rates. Socialinsider's TikTok benchmarks show 2025 engagement per view at 4.40% for accounts with 1K to 5K followers and 3.75% for 50K to 100K.
  3. Same niche. A comedy creator and a skincare creator don't share a normal.

Socialinsider's numbers include saves, so a result from this calculator, which doesn't count saves, will read a little lower than a like-for-like benchmark. Our page on what is a good engagement rate on TikTok breaks the ranges down by follower tier.

A few results deserve a second look:

  • Per view far above peers. Could be a great creator. Could be a giveaway post, an engagement pod or an argument in the comments. Read them.
  • Per follower far below per view. Recent posts reach only a slice of the followers. Check recent views against followers before you pay on follower count.
  • One video wildly different from the rest. That's why you total 12 posts, not one.

Need the numbers for a whole account?

Typing in 12 posts' worth of counts gets old. Scan the handle in the free analyzer and it pulls a creator's recent videos, works out engagement per view and per follower, and scores the account out of 100 against a benchmark for its follower tier.

Whatever tool you use, engagement is one input, not a verdict. Public engagement can't show sales, and it can't show whether the people reacting are the people who buy from you.
