The honest answer starts with a question back: engagement per what? The same video can show 6% per view and 1% per follower. Our TikTok engagement rate guide covers what the metric is and where to find it. This page is just the benchmarks, by follower tier, with sources.
What is a good engagement rate on TikTok by follower tier?
Per view is the fairer comparison across sizes, because it divides by the people who actually saw the post. Socialinsider's 2026 TikTok benchmarks, built on 2M+ videos from 2024 and 2025, give these 2025 averages:
| Followers | Avg ER per view (2025) | Read it as |
|---|---|---|
| 1K to 5K | 4.40% | Good: above 4.4% |
| 5K to 10K | 4.00% | Good: above 4.0% |
| 10K to 50K | 3.90% | Good: above 3.9% |
| 50K to 100K | 3.75% | Good: above 3.75% |
| 100K to 1M | 3.95% | Good: above 3.95% |
| All accounts | 4.20% | The platform middle |
Notice how flat that is. Per view, a 3K account and a 500K account land within half a point of each other. Socialinsider's quarterly update put the platform average at 3.85% in Q2 2026, so the line moves; check it before you quote it.
What about engagement rate per follower?
Per follower, size dominates, because small accounts often reach more people than they have followers. The benchmarks spread out:
- Nano creators (1K to 10K): 10.3% on average, per HypeAuditor's State of Influencer Marketing 2025.
- Brand accounts, all sizes: 3.70% in 2025, per Socialinsider's 2026 report.
- Brand accounts, median across industries: 1.73% per video, per Rival IQ's 2025 benchmark report, with Higher Ed at 7.36%.
So a 4% per-follower rate is weak for a nano creator and solid for a brand or a creator with millions of followers. That's why we prefer per view for comparing creators. The full argument is in engagement rate vs views.
How do you judge one creator against these numbers?
Four rules keep the comparison honest:
- Match the formula. Per view against per view. If a tool doesn't say which it uses, work it out yourself with the engagement rate formula.
- Use the median of the last 12 posts. Skip pinned videos. One viral hit can double an average.
- Compare within the niche. Benchmarks above mix every category. Comedy and finance don't engage alike.
- Read the comments. A high rate built on giveaways and tagged friends is a high rate, not a good one.
The quick way to get a creator's per-view and per-follower rates side by side is to run their handle through the analyzer. Or do the maths by hand with the engagement rate calculator.
Last point: none of these benchmarks says anything about sales. Public engagement can't show who bought. It shows who stopped scrolling, which is where a sale starts.
FAQ
Per view, yes: it sits above the 4.20% platform average in Socialinsider's 2026 benchmarks, built on 2025 data. Per follower, it depends on size. It's strong for a brand account or a large creator, and ordinary for a nano creator. Always check which formula produced the number before you judge it.
Per follower, small accounts win because their posts often reach more people than they have followers, so the denominator is small. Per view, the gap mostly closes: Socialinsider's 2025 data puts 1K to 5K accounts at 4.40% and 100K to 1M accounts at 3.95%. Size inflates follower-based rates far more than it changes how a post lands.
One well below the median for creators of the same size and niche, measured the same way, across the last 12 posts. A single weak post means little. A creator whose normal post sits far under the benchmark for their tier, with views far below their follower count, is the real red flag.
Yes, a lot. Rival IQ's 2025 report found Higher Ed brand accounts at 7.36% per follower against a 1.73% all-industry median, more than four times higher. Compare creators against others in the same niche, not against a platform-wide average that mixes comedy, beauty and finance together.
