TikTok Shop affiliate is pay-per-sale influencer marketing with the tracking built in. The brand lists a product, sets a commission and ships samples. Creators post with a product link, and TikTok pays them from each order. It's one of the ways brands find creators on TikTok, next to the TikTok Creator Marketplace and agency outreach.
This guide is written for brands. Creators, there's a short section for you near the end.
How does the TikTok Shop affiliate program work?
- You open a TikTok Shop and get approved as a seller.
- You list products in Seller Center.
- You set up collaborations, open, targeted or both, with a commission rate per product.
- Creators add your product to their showcase and post shoppable videos or go LIVE.
- A viewer buys in the app. TikTok attributes the order to the creator and pays commission on it.
No codes, no UTM links, no spreadsheets of who sold what. That's the big difference from running affiliate deals yourself. It's also why the program is popular: Influencer Marketing Hub's 2026 benchmark report found TikTok Shop made up 66.17% of platform picks among brands already using social commerce.
Open vs targeted collaborations
As of October 2026, per TikTok Shop Academy:
| Open collaboration | Targeted collaboration | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can promote | Any eligible TikTok Shop creator, with optional approval | Creators you invite |
| Commission range | 1% to 80% | 1% to 80%, overrides the open rate |
| Free samples | Yes, with eligibility rules you set | Yes, per invite |
| Rate change takes effect | After 30 days | After 5 days |
| Limit | None stated | Up to 1,000 invites per 24 hours |
| Best for | Volume, long tail of small creators | Creators you've vetted, launches, LIVE deals |
A creator earns one commission per product. If the product is in both, the targeted rate wins. TikTok's open collaboration help page also lists an optimized rate option and the choice to set rates per product, per group or shop-wide.
Our view: run open collaborations at a rate you can live with on every order, then use targeted invites at a higher rate for the creators who prove they sell. Note the 30-day delay on open rate changes. Cutting an open rate takes a month to land, so don't set it high to "see what happens".
How to set your TikTok Shop commission rate
Work back from margin, not from what you see other brands offer. A made-up $40 product, just to show the maths:
| Line | Example |
|---|---|
| Selling price | $40.00 |
| Product and packaging cost | $10.00 |
| TikTok referral fee (check your category's rate) | $3.20 |
| Shipping | $5.00 |
| Samples and returns, spread per order | $2.00 |
| Left before creator commission and ads | $19.80 |
At a 20% commission, the creator takes $8 and you keep $11.80 before ads. At 30%, you keep $7.80. Run the same table with your real numbers. TikTok's referral fee is set by category and has changed more than once, so check the current rate in Seller Center rather than an old blog post.
Then sanity-check against the market. Browse the affiliate marketplace for similar products and see what they offer. If you're well under, creators will pick them. If you're well over, check you can afford it after ads.
Who is eligible? Seller and product rules
As of September 2026, TikTok's affiliate marketing policy says:
- Your Shop Performance Score must be 3.5 or above. The score runs 0 to 5 and reflects the last 90 days of operations.
- Drop below 3.0 and you lose access.
- Products are judged one by one. A product can be blocked for customer complaints well above its category average, IP or review violations, or being flagged as unoriginal.
Late shipping and bad reviews don't just hurt one sale on TikTok Shop. They can switch off your whole affiliate channel.
How to get good creators to promote your product
Open collaborations bring volume. Most of it won't be the creators you'd pick. Targeted invites are where the sales usually come from, and that means finding creators first.
- Find creators who already sell in your category. Their videos have product links and their comments ask about price and shipping. Our guide on how to find TikTok influencers covers the searches.
- Vet them on views, not followers. Shoppable videos need people watching. Check the median on the last 12 posts.
- Send samples with a short brief. One line on who the product is for, one on the hook that works, and the disclosure ask. More on what to send in influencer gifting.
- Pay a flat fee to the few who matter. Creators who sell well get flooded with invites. A small fee plus commission gets you a post on a date. We compare the models in affiliate marketing vs influencer marketing.
- Put money behind the winners. A creator's shoppable post that sells can run as a paid ad through TikTok Spark Ads.
Inviting 1,000 creators a day is allowed. Inviting the right 40 is the hard part. If you'd rather hand that off, send us a brief with the product, budget, a competitor and the niche, and we'll shortlist creators by hand.
Disclosure on TikTok Shop affiliate posts
Commission and free samples are both material connections under US rules. The FTC's Disclosures 101 for social media influencers applies whether the payment is a fee, a commission or free product. Ask creators for a clear #ad or spoken disclosure, and put it in the collaboration terms.
For creators: how to join the TikTok Shop affiliate program
As of October 2026, TikTok's US creator eligibility policy sets these rules for self-applying affiliate creators:
- Age 18 or older.
- At least 1,000 followers.
- Under 5,000 followers? You join the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program for at least 30 days, with up to 3 shoppable videos a day and 3 shoppable LIVEs a week.
- Posting caps for everyone: up to 30 shoppable short videos and 60 shoppable photo posts a day, effective May 11, 2026.
Then pick products you'd actually use, request samples from sellers whose rates and ratings make sense, and track which videos sell. Brands notice creators who move product and send them targeted invites at higher rates. Being one of those is worth more than any single commission.
FAQ
It's TikTok Shop's built-in system for paying creators commission on sales. Sellers list products with a commission rate in Seller Center. Creators add those products to shoppable videos and LIVEs, and earn a share of each sale they drive. TikTok tracks the sale inside the app, so no external links or codes are needed.
As of October 2026 TikTok lets sellers set 1% to 80%. There's no right number. Work back from your margin after TikTok's referral fee, shipping and samples, then check what similar products offer in the affiliate marketplace. Pay more in targeted deals with creators who have shown they sell.
An open collaboration makes products available to any eligible TikTok Shop creator at one commission rate. A targeted collaboration is an invite to specific creators, with its own rate, samples and deliverables. If a product is in both, the targeted rate applies to that creator. Most brands run both.
In the US, as of October 2026, self-applying affiliate creators need at least 1,000 followers and must be 18 or older. Creators under 5,000 followers join a pilot program for at least 30 days, with limits such as 3 shoppable videos a day and no campaign participation.
The commission is a material connection, so the FTC expects clear disclosure in the US. TikTok adds its own shoppable labels, but creators should still make the relationship clear, especially when they got a free sample. Brands should ask for disclosure in the collaboration terms.
